For most people, applying oil to the face appears to be salutary in skincare mistakes, especially when talking about oily skin or skin prone to acne. Contrary to popular belief, however, facial oils can be the solution for all skin types if used rightly. In fact, the appropriate facial oil may hydrate, protect, and restore the glow of skin, whether dry, oily, combination, or sensitive.

Let's bust this myth and talk about how to use face oils to make your skin glow, whatever your skin type may be.

    Benefits of Applying Face Oils

Face oils, in general, are nutrient rich in fatty acids and vitamins, antioxidants, and naturally source deep nourishment: through oils whereas creams or lotions often rest on the surface. Oily substances penetrate down into the layers of skin-tissues to help lock in moisture, reduce skin inflammation, and reinstate the skin.

There are the primary benefits, including:

    High moisture content

Improvement of the skin function barrier

    Antioxidant protection

    A natural glow

    Texture and elasticity improvement.

Not all oils register equally, however. Knowing which oil is best for your skin type would be the key in ensuring maximum benefits without the need for breakouts or irritation.

    For Dry Skin

Dry skin has little to no natural oils, and it is unable to hold moisture in itself. Face oils tend to be the best solutions since they create a dry environment in the skin and create a protective layer that prevents moisture from going out.

    These are the Best Oils:

Argan Oil: High in Vitamin E with Essential Fatty Acids; sinks very rapidly into the skin.

Marula Oil: High in Antioxidants, best for very dry, flaky skin.

Avocado Oil: Highly nourishing and beneficial for repairing the skin barrier.

    How to Use:

Place 2-3 drops on top of a moisturizer, especially at night.

Alternatively, mix one drop with your foundation for a dewy finish during the daytime.

    For Oily/Acne-Prone Skin

Yes oil for oily skin! The right oils can actually help balance out sebum production and calm inflamed, acne-prone skin.

    Best Oils:

Jojoba Oil: Most closely mimic natural sebum, helping to regulate oil production.

Tea Tree Oil: Has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties—great for acne.

Rosehip Oil: Lightweight and non-greasy with high linoleic acid content.

    How-To-Use:

1-2 drops at night after toner/before moisturizer.

Apply using a Q-tip as a spot treatment for blemishes.

Coconut oil and other mineral oils should be avoided as they are heavy and can clog the pores.

    For Combination Skin

Mixtures of dry and oily zones are found in combination skin types. Treating both oily and dry areas with lightweight, balancing oils is, therefore, most appropriate.

    Best Oils:

Squalane: Non-comedogenic and perfect for all skin types.

Grapeseed Oil: Lightweight and dries up the surface oil.

Camellia Oil: Very rich in antioxidants, wonderful for balancing skin

    How to Use:

Apply very lightly over the entire face or only on those areas that are dry like that of your cheeks. Under makeup, to use, it becomes balanced glow.

    For Sensitive Skin

The skin then requires something soft and calming: The right oil for the face can soothe even the most tender skin, reducing irritation and redness, and adding to protection of the skin barrier.

    Best Oils:

Calendula Oil: It has anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Chamomile Oil: It calms and relieves skin discomfort.

Sea Buckthorn Oil: Contains omega fatty acids and Vitamin C.

    How to Use:

Do a patch test before full use.  Mix and reduce potency by blending 1-2 drops with a moisturizer; that would dilute it. Always avoid strong-oiled essential oil exposures unless they were diluted.

    Face Oils General Guidelines

Here are the general guidelines that would apply for use of face oils on all skin types:

    1.) On Damp Skin

Always apply face oil on damp skin. Oil application should take place while the skin is still slightly damp, immediately after cleansing and toning. This should trap the moisture in and allow for better absorption.

2.) Last Step or Mix In

Face Oils close down everything underneath them. Oils are meant to be used on the skin after any water-based serum and moisturizer, or to be mixed with cream for nourishment.

    3.) Less is More

One will start off with 1-3 drops. Too much oil is a great barrier to the skin, causing greasy stimulation or blockage.

4.) Buy Quality, Cold Pressed Oils.

With the most organic, pure, cold pressed oils, you would be buying pure healthy benefits without harmful additives or preservatives.

    Final Thoughts

Face oils are not for people with dry skins; they are good for healthy skin and healthy skin all throughout. Once you get what your skin needs and a good oil to use, nourish, protect and glow natural.

Let oils beautify your skin and let it immerse in the goodness of them. A glowing complexion could just be a drop or two away!
